Frequently Asked Questions
When to begin?
As a guideline, the American Association of Orthodontists
recommends an evaluation by an orthodontist at age 7. Why
so young? Aided with early diagnosis, our doctors can help
guide facial growth, tooth eruption and correct harmful habits
which frequently prevent more serious problems from developing.
This often results in saving both time and money.
More than 30% of our current patients are adults. That number
is increasing each year. Adults who have tolerated dental
malfunctions throughout their lives are thrilled with their
new smile. They realize the value of improved dental health
as well as the increased self-esteem derived from improving
their appearance.
What are the advantages of Damon™
Braces?
Older style braces require elastics to hold arch wires in
place. Elastics cause friction, making treatment slower and
less comfortable. Damon™ Braces allow the wire to slide,
which moves teeth more quickly and comfortably.
- Extraordinary results
- Shorter treatment times
- Fewer appointments
- Greater comfort
- Reduced extractions
- Less need for headgear and expanders
- High-technology wires move teeth faster with less force
- A modern, clinically-proven treatment approach with over 1 million patients treated
Who can benefit from Orthodontics?
Poorly aligned teeth are obvious to friends, family, and most acutely, to the patient. (Unfortunately, several functional problems can also be present behind seemingly perfect smiles.) Here are some of the most prevalent problems and their warning signs:
- Large spacing between teeth, missing, crowding or overlapping of teeth
- Protruding upper teeth, lower teeth or jaws
- Chewing difficulties
- Popping, clicking or painful joints (TMJ)
- Harmful habits (breathing with mouth open, tongue thrusting,
- Bruxing or grinding of teeth, clinching teeth or sucking of thumb, fingers, lip or tongue)
- Deep overbite (lower incisors biting into roof of mouth); open bite in front or back tooth areas
- Cross bite (lower teeth biting outside upper teeth in front or on sides)
- Lack of proper dental functions
- If any of these problems are present, you may be a candidate for orthodontic treatment.
What to expect during your initial visit?
Your initial consultation is COMPLIMENTARY and includes a PANORAMIC X-RAY taken with our digital x-ray machine (significantly less radiation). This x-ray allows Dr. Don to better diagnose whether or not treatment is necessary.
The orthodontic exam is comfortable and completely painless.
Following the exam, we'll make a recommendation based on your
specific situation. We will explain how long treatment should
take and the cost and payment options. If Dr. Don determines
you are ready, we will begin by taking impressions.
